Deal Town sweating on grant from Coalfields Regeneration Trust

Deal Town chairman David Reid says the club are now "in the last chance saloon" over receiving a £250,000 grant for the refurbishment of their new clubhouse.

The body awarding the grant, the Coalfields Regeneration Trust, had extended their earlier deadline of May 31 to last night (Wednesday) for the club to prove that they are now operating properly again following a long-running boardroom battle.

One of the issues the Trust want resolved is the fact that the club are in trouble with Companies House, who have served a "notice of dissolution" on Deal Town Football Club (2001) Ltd for failing to file proper accounts.

Companies House have said that the accounts must be filed by September otherwise the company will be dissolved but Mr Reid insisted: "We have now got them done and they were posted off to Companies House last Friday. The problem was created by the previous administration, who did not file any accounts for the financial year 2008-09.

"Hopefully, once the accounts have been approved by Companies House, they will lift the dissolution notice and we will then be able to convince the Coalfields Regeneration Trust that we have regained our proper legal status."

Deal kicked off their pre-season in style with a 7-0 win over Milton & Fulston Athletic on Tuesday.
