Funeral for Peter Wood, chairman of Dover and Deal Burma Star Association

The funeral takes place next week of the chairman of the Dover and Deal Burma Star Association.

It is at Barham Crematorium from 10am on Friday, March 6.

Peter Wood, who served in the Burma campaign during the Second World War, died on February 10 at Kent and Canterbury Hospital.

Mr Wood, aged 93, had been the BSA branch chairman since the early 1990s.

Branch secretary Malcolm Gibbons said: "He was chairman when there were approximately 156 members in the branch, of which now most have passed away.

"All served in the Burma Campaign and are recorded in the book of Remembrance in the Burma Star Chapel in Deal Castle. "

In civilian life Mr Wood was an engineering manager for East Kent Road Car Company (East Kent Buses).

Mr Wood, known to his family as Norman, lived in Deal.

His wife Mildred passed away a decade ago and he leaves two daughters.
