The Coastguard, The Tiger, Bridge Arms and The Dog named among best in UK to visit this summer

The Kent pubs were picked by Kristie and Brad Lomas, owners of Boys Hall in Ashford.

The couple took on the Grade II-listed manor house in 2019 and have since connverted it into a boutique hotel and restaurant.

The four pubs in the county chosen by the duo are: The Coastguard, at St Margaret’s Bay near Dover, The Tiger Inn, in Stowting, near Folkestone, Bridge Arms, near Canterbury, and The Dog at Wingham.

Of The Coastguard, the write-up states: “The closest British pub to France, with a big outdoor barbecue and terrace and the most incredible views over the Channel.”

For The Tiger, the article lists its “quirky interiors, tasty food and stunning countryside views” as highlights.

The “wonderful conservatory” is mentioned for The Dog, and Bridge Arms is noted as a “popular choice for food lovers and a good spot for special occasions”.

Taking to Instagram stories, the team at Boys Hall added a screenshot of The Times article, adding: “We named several wonderful pubs we love.”

The Tiger, which benefited from a six-figure refurbishment in 2021, was last year named best pub in Kent in the Pub and Bar Awards, while Bridge Arms was awarded a Michelin star in 2022.

The Coastguard was taken over by Shepherd Neame in 2016.

And The Dog went viral earlier this year after posting a video of staff taking part in a blindfolded beer-pouring challenge. Their video attracted more than 1.2 million views in a day.
