Emergency services have attended an incident at Dover which resulted in a lorry driver being taken to hospital.

Eye-witnesses reported seeing police cars and an ambulance in Elizabeth Street, just off the Limekiln Street roundabout on the A20.

Originally there was speculation that illegal immigrants might have been found in the back of a lorry.

But police said they received reports at noon giving cause for concern about a foreign-registered lorry which had just left the port of Dover.

The lorry was stopped in Elizabeth Street where officers became concerned for the driver's welfare. Paramedics were called and the man who was driving the lorry was taken to hospital for further treatment. He was said to be in his 40s.

Less than two hours later, in an unrelated incident, there was a collision between a car and a lorry on the A20 at Townwall Street. It happened just after 2pm and the road was partially blocked for a while.

No-one was injured.
