A neighbour has been branded a “true hero” after he helped a homeowner escape a house fire.
Three fire engines spent more than two hours getting the blaze in Deal under control after being called to Pilots Avenue just after 3pm yesterday afternoon.
One man who had managed to escape the bungalow before crews arrived was treated with oxygen for smoke inhalation.
Pilots Avenue was closed during the incident as emergency vehicles filled the street and with traffic unable to pass along the road between Manor Road and Davis Avenue.
It is believed the blaze started in the home’s living room but the cause has yet to be determined.
KFRS’ volunteer response team also attended to offer advice and support.
Firefighters had the flames extinguished by 5.23pm.
A local resident took to social media to commend a neighbour who called the fire service before entering the bungalow to rescue the homeowner.
They said: “Good lad you got there. Well done, a true hero.”
