A planning application for 100 homes has been deferred again.

The first time a decision over the site, at Cross Road, Deal, had been put off following highways concerns.

Now it was over the possible effects of the development on a nearby riding school, Bridleways at Station Road, Walmer.

The second deferment was taken at a Dover District Council planning committee meeting last Thursday.

A council spokesman said: "The application was deferred pending advice from the British Horse Society regarding the development’s impact on the riding school and particularly the safety of horses and riders."

Findings will be reported back to the Planning Committee in due course.

Councillors had previously put off a decision at its January 16 meeting to visit the site, which is on farmland at Mill Hill.

That was scheduled to takes place last Tuesday.

The council said this was for councillors to be briefed by Kent County Council's highways department on road implications and impacts.

Members had also acknowledge an overwhelming number of letters from neighbours opposing the scheme.

There were 116 by the January meeting, which rose to 122 by the time of last Thursday's debate.

There were specific concerns of lack of pathways for safe walking.

Local people also complained about lack of infrastructure and overcrowding of parked roads in Deal, Cllr Helen Williams had told last month's meeting.

She added that this application added up to 496 homes planned for or built on since last year in Mill Hill and its surrounding area.

Planning officers are recommending approval of the Cross Road application.

In a separate development archaeologists had warned that the site needed to be thoroughly checked because it was close to rich finds nearby.

KCC's archaeology department said that an Iron Age warrior had been found buried in 1988 during preparations to build homes at nearby Walmer Way
