An energetic start to 2010 was had by more than 160 runners who dressed in decorated bras to raise cash for a good cause.

The Deal Tri 5k Bra Run kicked off from Deal Castle in freezing conditions aided by a warm-up aerobic session to loosen the joints with fitness instructor Abi Reynaert.

Organiser Sally Scoggins said: “About 100 people entered on the day.

“It was a shame that the cold weather might have kept people away.

“The people that turned up seemed to really enjoy the aerobics just before the start.”

On the spot prizes were donated by local businesses.

Mrs Scoggins, who has been organising the race for six years and has helped raise £19,000 for Breast Cancer Care, said she wanted to thank the marshals who stood around for more than two hours while the walkers finished the course.

Kieran Reilly was the first to cross the finish line after completing the three-mile circuit from Deal Castle to Kingsdown and back and Faye Faiers, from Hawkinge, won the ladies’ race.

Prizes were given for the best dressed entrant.

Mrs Scoggins said: “ We have raised £2,000 this year for Breast Cancer Care. We need people to collect their money and get it in to us as soon as possible.” To contact Mrs Scoggins about where to take the cash, telephone 01304 371587.
