Riders warned and bike seized in off-road campaign

Eight people have been issued with warnings about riding motorcycles illegally in the Dover and Deal area.

Officers from the police off-road motorcycle team have been working alongside neighbourhood officers to target the nuisance caused by illegal riders.

It follows complaints from residents about noise and comes amid concern for the safety of riders and walkers.

The latest campaign started on New Year’s Eve when two men were stopped riding at the Tilmanstone pit site.

A 51-year-old man from Canterbury was issued with a formal warning and had his motorbike seized when officers discovered it was stolen.

Another Canterbury man, aged 30, was also formally told not to ride at the site and has been warned that his bike will be seized if he is caught again.

The police teams were out again at the weekend when a further six warnings were issued at Tilmanstone, Coldblow Woods and the Coombe Valley area of Dover.

Inspector Guy Thompson said: "Illegal off-roading is dangerous and causes a nuisance and we will continue to run operations to target this activity."
