Treasure maps will be handed out to the town's 'pirates' at 11am and 1pm and its hoped that people of all ages will dress up for the occasion.

An award is being made for the best dressed at 3.30pm and winners can expect to be rewarded with treasure.

Rotary Pirates member Simon Pollard, 54, said: “We want to fill Deal town centre will people dressed as pirates all in the name of charity.

“We’re a seafaring town so we thought pirates were appropriate, and we’re hoping to make it an annual event."

There are two trails and maps will cost £3 for the shorter route and £5 for a more challenging hunt.

Money raised will be split between Deal Rowing Club and Walmer Sea Scouts.

Rotary Pirates was set up to encourage younger members into the Deal branch, where the average age of members is 80-plus.
