The Kent postman pushing the boundaries with his fancy dress during the coronavirus pandemic

One Kent postman is pushing the boundaries with his fancy dress and villagers can't contain their smiles.

Like many Royal Mail workers Gary Waller, who works out of the Dover office, has ditched his uniform during lockdown to try and cheer up households.

But what started with an ordinary Superman onesie and an oversized penguin suit has now decreased in size to more revealing Borat mankinis and yesterday's fairy outfit.

The people of Eythorne are now used to receiving an eyeful in addition to their mail each day.

And with the full support of his boss Ellie Scott, the 51-year-old married father of two has pledged to keep bringing out the surprises.

He said: "I'm not doing it for any other reason than I'm daft and I like to see people smile.

"It started with my superman onesie and then I started to think how I could be more and more outrageous.

"Being a large, 18 stone male, it's difficult getting the costumes.

"When the fairy costume came up, I thought I've got to do it!"

He teamed the plunging white tutu minidress with a blonde wig and with his DM boots.

Many villagers couldn't contain their smiles and asked to take his photographs.

Mr Waller said: "One of my first customers said she had had such a down day the day before and it had really put a smile on her face.

"The round took me an extra hour and a half yesterday but the reaction I got makes it worth it. I feel lucky to be out working still."

Resident Colin Smith said: "He's a great bloke. Everyday he wears a different outfit. It always brings a smile."

Mr Waller's round takes him along Cherry Way, Chappel Hill, Willow Way and Hawthorne Close.

He added: "I'm not the only one. A few of us at the Dover office are doing it. Our boss Ellie Scott has been fantastic. She's supported us the whole way."

He said that while there has been a drop in letters, the team has noticed a rise in packages.

Last Wednesday they delivered around 7,500 packages, which is around 2,500 more than they're used to doing at Christmas.
