Car parked on tracks at Deal railway station disrupts train services

Train services were disrupted today after a car ended up on tracks.

Services between Sandwich and Dover were stopped for three hours because of the incident at Deal railway station at about 11am.

The silver vehicle entered the station via the level crossing at Western Road and Albert Road.

Chris Denham, from Network Rail, said this morning: “We had to turn the power off and stop all trains in the Deal area after an incident on the level crossing left a car on the tracks.

“Owing to the location of the car, which is straddling the live conductor rail, we won’t be able to turn the power back on until it has been removed and the tracks have been checked for damage.

“We would urge passengers travelling between Ramsgate and Dover to check before they travel this afternoon.”

It is thought the driver took a wrong turn.

Police were at the scene and specialist heavy lifting machinery was brought in to move the car.

Network Rail said this afternoon that services were back to normal at around 2pm but there was still some disruption.
