Visit of historic vessel

A motor torpedo boat thought to be the only surviving Royal Navy vessel that took part in the Dunkirk evacuation visits Deal and Sandwich this weekend.

The MTB 102 will sail into Deal at noon on Saturday and will stay for two hours before heading to Sandwich where it arrives at 3.15pm and remains until Monday afternoon.

The visit has been organised by the Coastal Motorboat Heritage Trust.

MTBs were developed to be able to mount a quick response to threats from any seagoing vessel either warship or submarine.

The MTB 102 is one of only a few Second World War Royal Navy vessels still afloat and is thought to be the only Royal Navy vessel that took part in the Dunkirk evacuation which has survived.
