A teenager from Walmer who died in the First World War will be remembered on Armistice Day at a special two-minute silence beside his grave in Deal Cemetery.

Members of Walmer Baptist Church, where the former Royal Marine was a member of the congregation, will be standing at his burial place at Deal Cemetery, Hamilton Road, at 11am on Thursday, November 11.

Pte William Bennett, who died aged 18, is one of nine servicemen named on the war memorial at the Kelvedon Road baptist church.

Pastor Seyan Tills, from the church, said: "As a local lad from Walmer and as a member of our congregation we felt it appropriate to gather to remember the fallen of all conflicts at his graveside on Armistice Day.

"His last letter home, written on Christmas Eve, suggested that he had a feeling he might be bidding a last farewell to his parents."
