Southern Counties East League round-up: Deal close gap on leaders, Glebe held at Rusthall, Faversham hit Holmesdale for six

Title-chasing Deal moved to within four points of Premier Division leaders Glebe on Saturday.

Steve King’s Deal still have five games in hand as they made it 12 league games without defeat by beating Tunbridge Wells 3-0 at home.

It proved the perfect warm-up for next weekend’s FA Vase trip to Bridgwater United with Billy Munday’s brace added to by a Macauley Murray spot-kick.

Leaders Glebe were held to a goalless draw at lowly Rusthall while Faversham also made up ground by winning 6-1 at home to Holmesdale.

Top scorer Stefan Payne set them on their way with a brace, Sam Hasler continued his goalscoring form with a goal in either half and Billy Bennett and Warren Mfula completed the scoring.

Fourth-placed Corinthian turned their game around against Lydd in the last five minutes to win 3-1 and mark boss Michael Golding’s 400th match in charge with three points/

The visitors led through Charlie Dickens on 70 minutes but Connor Driscoll, a Oscar Housego penalty and Jack Billings proved decisive for Corinthian.

Fifth met sixth at Honey Lane and there proved nothing between the teams as Bearsted drew 0-0 with Whitstable.

Erith Town beat bottom side Welling Town 4-2, having trailed to a Jordan Samuel goal inside 13 minutes.

Ollie Milton puts Erith level and a James Dyer penalty saw them ahead at half-time. Andrew Mott made it 2-2 with 12 minutes left but another Dyer spot-kick and Jake Lovell ensured maximum points for the home side.

There were amazingly three goalless draw with Kennington collecting a valuable point at Fisher while Snodland won 4-0 at Stansfeld thanks to Francis Babalola (2), Jordan Wells and Ben Davisson.

VCD continued to move away from the relegation places after a 3-1 home success over Hollands & Blair with goals from Reece Deakins, Bethel Gboda and Richard Jimoh.

Punjab United’s game at Lordswood was abandoned late on with the visitors winning 3-2 at the time.

With Division 1 leaders AFC Whyteleafe in cup action, Rochester closed the gap to seven points by winning 2-1 at Staplehurst to claim second spot.

Harrison Hume and Liam Wilkins put Rochester 2-0 ahead before Omar El-Mantawy pulled one back.
