DOVER Athletic officials today began planning for the biggest game in the club's 19-year history against Oxford United in the FA Cup first round at Crabble on Saturday, November 16.

Last night's dramatic 2-1 fourth qualifying round replay success at Conference outfit Woking, following Saturday's 1-1 draw at Crabble, erased years of bitter FA Cup disappointment.

Whites finally reached the first round proper for the first time since the club's formation in 1983, after the old Dover FC folded that same year.

Tommy Tyne’s was Dover's hero when he latched onto a defensive blunder on 86 minutes to slot home Whites’ winner.

The Kent club had taken the lead shortly before half-time when Jamie Day netted from the spot after Tyne had been upended in the box. Woking levelled on 51 minutes courtesy of a Ben Abbey’ free-kick.

The last time that 'Dover FC' reached the first round in the 1981-82 season their opponents were also Oxford United who won 2-0 at Crabble.

Delighted manager Clive Walker said: "It's great for the town and it's great for the supporters. We had great support again at Woking and this result will also lift all the players."

The immediate financial reward for Tuesday's success is the £20,000 in AXA-sponsored prize money to add to the £17,500 that Whites had won in the previous rounds. Another £20,000 is on offer for the winners of the Oxford tie.
