Dover boss Chris Kinnear still active in transfer market ahead of return to Conference Premier

Dover boss Chris Kinnear has now signed five new players following the arrival of midfield duo Nicky Deverdics and Matt Lock on Tuesday.

Both players had been on trial at the club with Deverdics playing four of the pre-season games while Lock has featured in all five.

But they may not be the last to put pen-to-paper.

Kinnear said another trialist, Jake Reid, could also be signing soon.

Reid scored twice in the 4-0 win against Faversham at Crabble on Tuesday (another two summer signings, Tyrone Sterling and Christian Nanetti, scored the others) to take his tally to four in pre-season.

Kinnear said: “He’s done well and we’ll make him an offer.”

Tyrone Sterling (6) scores for Dover against Truro last season. He scored again in the 4-0 win against Faversham on Tuesday night.

As for getting former Newcastle United trainee Deverdics and Lock on board, Kinnear said the signings go to prove how vital it is to give players a go at this time of the year.

He said: “You just don’t know what you are going to get until you give them a chance to impress you in training and match situations.

“It’s all about learning about players at this time of the year. Nicky and Matt took their opportunities and it’s great to have them both here.

“Nicky has a lovely left foot, he’s a great passer and creates chances.

“Matt offers something else to our options because he’s a bit older, he’s tenacious and talks a bit more.

“There is no doubt both players will give us something extra to what we have already.”

Dover play League 1 side Colchester United at Crabble tomorrow (Friday) at 7.45pm and entertain Gillingham on Tuesday.
