Former Torquay United striker Duane Ofori-Acheampong hoping to impress Dover Athletic manager Chris Kinnear

Duane Ofori-Acheampong played for Torquay United against Dover last September but the young striker could be playing for Whites against them in the Vanarama National League this season.

Ofori-Acheampong, who scored six goals from 16 starts and 14 substitute appearances in his one season at United, has been among the trialists boss Chris Kinnear has been looking at.

The 22-year-old played the full 90 minutes in Torquay’s 2-0 win against Whites at Plainmoor and was an unused substitute in the 2-2 draw at Crabble in December.

He was released at the end of last season and Kinnear said: “It’s that time of year when we look at and talk to, plenty of players. Duane has looked sharp and impressive but whether he joins us is another question.

“We’ll just have to wait and see what comes of it because I’ve been around this game far too long to know that things change daily.”

Kinnear also confirmed that there were no new developments about last season’s captain Connor Essam.

Essam has been offered a new contract and Kinnear said: “We’ve had talks but that’s about it.”

Whites start their pre-season friendlies against National League South side Whitehawk at Crabble on Saturday (3pm).
