Dover Athletic manager Chris Kinnear says Whites must make most of Ricky Miller while he is at Crabble

Chris Kinnear says Dover must make the most of hot-shot Ricky Miller while he is still at the club - though he hopes the striker can fire them into the Football League next season.

Miller netted for the 27th time this season in the 1-1 FA Trophy draw at Dartford on Saturday and nobody has scored more league goals in the top five divisions in the country.

Gillingham, Peterborough, Lincoln and Forest Green have all been linked with a January transfer window move for Miller, whose contract is up in the summer when he will be able to leave for nothing.

Dover boss Kinnear claimed: “At the moment Ricky plays for us. Someone’s got to come in and make the right offer haven’t they? It’s like anything in football, there’s always talk, talk, talk.

“When it comes to it (in the summer) everyone will have him for nothing I’m sure, but money does talk.”

He added: “If it’s a big club that are obviously prepared to pay decent money and it’s a good club for Rick that allows him to progress I’m sure we won’t stand in his way, but it’s got to be right for all parties.

“That’s the way that football works - just because someone is scoring lots of goals doesn’t always mean they have to go. We won’t know that for another couple of weeks but while we’ve got him and he’s scoring goals we’ll make the most of that.”

Miller, 27, notched 20 goals as Dover reached the National League play-offs last season and Kinnear added: “We have got ambitions aswell. The chairman has said he’s not desperate to sell or get rid of anybody really. We need to be improving our squad which is good.

“He might be here next year - you really don’t know, you just have to wait and see. If Rick wants to play in the League he could come with us.”

He added: “We can’t worry about what might happen, you can’t do anything about that. The facts are we’ve got a team here, he’s part of that and we’ll see where we go.”
