Striker Ricky Miller scored on his return to Crabble on Saturday but it wasn't enough to prevent Dover Athletic from losing 4-1 against Whitehawk in their opening pre-season friendly.

The National League South side beat goalkeeper Andy Rafferty three times inside the first 20 minutes before Miller, who joined Whites on a two-year deal last month after being released by Luton Town, reduced the deficit.

Miller scored five goals in 10 appearances while on loan at Dover from the Hatters last season.

An own goal from one of the many trialists, Arnaud Mendy, just before half-time completed the scoring.

Boss Chris Kinnear's first half line-up included seven of last seasons squad along with Miller and his first summer signing, defender Jamie Grimes.

Grimes, who joined from Kidderminster, was captain and played the entire match.

Former Torquay United striker Duane Ofori-Acheampong played the second half after replacing Miller at the break.

Ofori-Acheampong penned a deal to join Whites after the game.

Mitch Walker also replaced Rafferty at half-time, one of six changes Kinnear made, but saw very little action.

Dover host another National League South side, Eastbourne Borough, on Tuesday (7.45pm).
