Plan for new golf course

EAST KENT, which already enjoys a prominent position on Britain’s golfing map, may be able to boast another course in the not-too-distant future.

Matthew Parrett, managing director of the White Horse Group, wants to build an 18-hole course on a 90-acre site which he owns just off the old A20 between Dover and Folkestone, at Little Farthingloe.

The Dover Golf Club would be a par-70 public course measuring 6,200 yards with a timber-framed clubhouse and a practice ground.

Mr Parrett says: “I want to create a course which is attractive, well maintained and suitable for juniors, beginners and families as well as for the experienced player.”

Golf course architects, Weller Designs, from Farnham in Surrey, have been commissioned to design the course which would offer a mix of club membership and “pay and play” golf.

Mr Parrett is now waiting for an environmental study to be completed before submitting a planning application to Dover District Council later this year.
