Aldershot Town 2 Dover Athletic 0 match report

Dover Athletic are eight National League games without a win after suffering a 2-0 defeat at Aldershot Town on Saturday.

Chris Kinnear’s side failed to score for the third consecutive match as they remain rooted to the foot of the table.

Kinnear made four changes to the side that were beaten 2-0 at home to Solihull Moor with new loan signing Bradley Barry going straight into the starting 11.

The match almost got off to the worst possible start for Dover when the home side hit the crossbar inside the first minute.

Matt McClure crossed for Adam May whose side-footed shot hit the woodwork.

Dover’s first chance came after 12 minutes when Josh Passley’s dangerous cross was met by the head of Tobi Sho-Silva but was deflected inches wide.

It was Aldershot who took the lead in the 18th minute when Adam May slotted home Dominic Bernard’s cross from eight yards out.

Allen and Sho-Silva had chances in the 28th and 29th minute respectively but Aldershot goalkeeper Jake Cole saved comfortably.

Jacob Berkeley-Agyepong hit the side-netting from 20 yards out 10 minutes before the break to nearly double the lead for the home side.

Mitch Walker was quick off his line to smother an opportunity for Aldershot when May was played through on goal in the 60th minute.

May got his second of the afternoon and doubled the home side’s lead when he scored in the 67th minute.

In similar circumstances to the first goal, the cross was pulled back for May who was unmarked eight yards from goal.

Dover's only real chance of the second half came four minutes from time when George Smith crossed to David Smith who then volleyed from 10 yards out but it was straight at the goalkeeper.

Aldershot Town had a penalty shout turned down in the 88th minute. Dan Holman was brought down in the box and referee Gary Parsons looked to be raising the whistle to give the spot kick but changed his mind.
