Chorley Town 1 Dover Athletic 1 match report: Kevin Lokko's stoppage time goal earns Whites a point against National League strugglers

By Alex Birch

Kevin Lokko struck deep in stoppage time to grab a point for Dover on the road against the National League’s bottom side Chorley.

Alex Newby’s quick-footed strike on 73 minutes looked to have won it for the Magpies, before Lokko’s late, late show on a chilly afternoon in Lancashire.

There were high balls aplenty during the opening exchanges, with both defences winning the battle for headers.

An early Dover chance from an Anthony Jeffrey corner fell to an unmarked Inih Effiong, but the big forward could only shoot over from close in.

A good 15-minute break in productive action was broken by two half chances within 30 seconds of each other.

Marcus Carver forced Lee Worgan into his first work of the afternoon with a pull back from the byline as Dover’s defence creaked, before Ricky Modeste just bent an effort over the bar following a rapid break for the away side

Chorley threatened to get on top as time ebbed away in the first half; Chris Holroyd and Alex Newby both went close with efforts after well worked passing moves, but the best chance still came Dover’s way.

Effiong was sent clear, galloped into the box, but just as he went to shoot, Mark Ross hung out a leg to deflect the effort behind

The second half began at a better pace and Dover began to keep the ball in Chorley’s half, winning a succession of set pieces that ended when Kevin Lokko headed wide from a Jai Reason corner.

The game was now wide open, with Whites again looking dangerous from set pieces.

Chorley, targeting Dover’s left flank as much as possible, got in twice, but the only real chance created was scuffed into Worgan’s arms by top scorer Holroyd.

There was nothing Worgan could do with the home side’s winner, however. Newby was quick onto a loose ball just outside the box, beat two defenders and finished low past the unsighted Dover stopper.

That looked to be that, until Worgan’s deep free kick into the box at the end of added on time was swept home from 10 yards by skipper Lokko.
