Dorking 20 Dover 15

Dover travelled to Dorking for their first game in five weeks and came up just short against a side flying high in London 2 South.

“Although disappointed we can take many positives from the game,” said senior coach Graham Tonks.

“We competed well throughout, turned over a quantity of ball and created a number of good chances against an extremely good side.”

Dover started well, and using the slope to their advantage took the lead through a Martyn Beaumont penalty.

Dorking rallied to take move ahead with the first try of the encounter, but Buster Collins intercepted a deep pass to score under the posts and Beaumont converted to make it 10-7.

Dorking once again battled back, levelling the scores by half-time, and they soon enjoyed a 17-10 lead.

Ben Sedgwick’s try gave the visitors a way back into the match, but a late penalty consigned them to defeat.

“I’m looking forward to the next three games, all of which are at home” Tonks commented.

“We meet league leaders Basingstoke this weekend, which will be another fine test for us.”

Team: Lucas, Tomlinson (Savage), Moore (Stanley), Sluman (Hayward), Robinson, Collins, Foster, D.Tonks, Murray, Charge, L.Tonks, Beaumont, Mackintosh, Sedgwick, Townley.
