Dover Athletic manager Andy Hessenthaler looks ahead to home FA Trophy tie against Havant & Waterlooville

Andy Hessenthaler says he won’t hesitate to make changes for Dover’s FA Trophy first round tie with Havant & Waterlooville at Crabble on Saturday.

Dover’s excellent 2-1 victory over Fylde on Saturday extended their unbeaten run in the National League to four games but while Hessenthaler is keen to maintain momentum, he admits the Trophy is not top of his priorities.

The Whites boss said: “We’ll make changes because we feel that some players will need a game, I’m sure Havant will do the same.

“Is it a priority to us? No it’s not, everybody knows what the priority is (staying in the National League).

“The chairman’s told me it isn’t a priority, we’ve already had that conversation but we’re still going to approach it in the right way.

“It’s another game of football and we want to keep the momentum going, so we’ll be going out there to win the game.

“Whatever team goes out there it will be a strong team.”

Hessenthaler did not rule out including a couple of youth players in the matchday squad and recent signing Alfie Pavey could be in line for a start against his former club.

The 23-year-old former Dartford man had a hand in both Inih Effiong’s goals against Fylde after coming off the bench and Hessenthaler says he is not far off being up to speed.

He said: “It was a great effort from him on Saturday

“He’s still got to get fitter, he’s been playing part-time football at Havant, not full-time so he’s behind, but he made a massive impact on Saturday.”

Hessenthaler was delighted with the victory over Fylde and admitted his emotions may have got the better of him when Effiong’s 93rd-minute winner went in.

He said: “I did jump up a little bit and I apologised to their manager (Dave Challinor) but I think he realised we’re in a relegation battle and every point is going to help, so he gave me that one to be fair.”

Anthony Jeffrey will be available for Saturday's FA Trophy tie after having his red card against Fylde overturned.

The winger was controversially sent off by referee Carl Brook in the 66th minute of Saturday's 2-1 home win after colliding with Fylde's Danny Philliskirk.
