Wrexham 1 Dover Athletic 1 Vanarama Conference match report

Dover Athletic had to settle for a share of the points after a 1-1 draw at Wrexham after striker Stefan Payne missed a second half penalty.

Jay Harris opened the scoring for Wrexham in the 38th minute after he beat goalkeeper Mitch Walker from the edge of the area.

That's the way it stayed until substitute Ricky Modeste equalised 15 minutes into the second half when he deflected Tom Murphy's shot beyond Wrexham goalkeeper Andy Coughlin.

Whites had the chance to beat Coughlin again seven minutes later from the penalty spot after Sean Raggett was adjudged to have been fouled.

Payne, who scored his first goal of this year against AFC Telford on Saturday, took the kick but Coughlin saved easily.

Midfielder Nicky Deverdics had a great chance to win it for Whites in stoppage time but fired wide.

The point means Dover remain 10th ahead of Saturday's trip to Eastleigh.

Former Republic of Ireland international and Arsenal defender Joe O’Cearuill was named in the Dover squad for the first time since signing last week.

Dover: Walker, Wynter, Sterling, Raggett, Orlu, Francis, Kinnear, Deverdics, Murphy, Payne (Cogan 76mins), Holman (Modeste 34mins). Subs not used: Bellamy, O’Cearuill, Taiwo.

Attendance: 1,839 with 21 from Dover
