University of Kent: A practical guide to Clearing

Sponsored Editorial

It can be an uncertain time if you or someone you love is thinking of applying to university during Clearing. However, the process doesn’t have to be daunting.

Every year, tens of thousands of students go through Clearing to successfully secure their place at university.

The reasons they give vary; some have not done as well in their exams as they hoped, and haven’t met the entry requirements for their first choice. Or perhaps they’ve done better than they anticipated, and are reassessing their options.

Others may have done exactly as they predicted, but their circumstances may have changed – for example they’ve made a decision to study closer to home.

.

As long as they’re prepared, Clearing can be a positive experience for students. It offers the chance to reassess, and see what new opportunities might be available.

Over the years the University of Kent has welcomed thousands of students that applied through Clearing. Many of these believe that Clearing was the best thing that could’ve happened to them – but they weren’t always prepared for the process.

Bear in mind that it doesn’t need to be a snap decision. Most universities advertise courses with Clearing places from early July, so students are able to see what’s available in the run up to Results Day. This gives ample time to really think about their options and possible new opportunities.

Once students have applied for or been offered a course, the university will often provide some ‘thinking time’ so there’s a chance for students to be sure that they have made the right decision for them.

Why Kent is a popular Clearing choice

The University of Kent remains a popular destination for Clearing students. Spanning two campuses in Canterbury and Medway, the university offers an inclusive environment and a vibrant, welcoming student community.

To help students settle in and make the most of the opportunities available to them, Kent offers all-round support. Specialist staff are on hand to help them progress academically; advise on future careers, and support their personal wellbeing.

The other part of a great student experience is being able to strike a balance between study and socialising.

At Kent, there are numerous activities for students to take part in outside the classroom, including free gym and sport membership for first-years; hundreds of societies, plenty of bars and restaurants, and a cinema and nightclub on the Canterbury campus.

.

Other great opportunities include a year abroad or in industry. Studying at Kent means learning at one of the top 50 universities in the UK, according to the Complete University Guide (2023).
