EKC: Unlock your potential with Functional Skills

Sponsored Editorial

You can study English and Maths for free this winter thanks to EKC Training.

If you don’t already have a Grade 4/C at GCSE Level, you can learn in person at one of their training centres or even study online.

.

Starting in January, their Functional Skills qualifications will give you knowledge in lots of different areas and the chance to build towards your future and unlock your true potential.

In today’s world, it is essential that you have an English and Maths qualification, especially if you want to start a new career or go on to further study.

Learn a wide range of topics

Functional Skills qualifications focus on teaching you practical skills that you can apply to real-life and vocational contexts.

The courses cover a wide range of areas and unlike GCSEs, you can take an exam at any point in the year when you feel ready.

You will walk away with skills that you need to know for life, work and further study, with English covering speaking, listening, reading, and writing. These can improve your communication skills and aid with writing emails, letters, job applications as well as enhance your interview skills.

Functional Skills Maths will help you build skills including how to budget, manage your bills, work out the best deals when shopping and understand data and reports.

.

Improve your prospects

Studies show that adults who don’t have an English or Maths qualification often don’t make more than minimum wage, meaning that this is a significant limit to your potential.

By completing a Functional Skills course, you will show to employers that you have competency and can work towards goals successfully.

If you are looking towards where other educational opportunities can take you, many universities and educational providers accept Functional Skills Level 2 qualifications as the equivalent of a GCSE pass at grade C/4.

Throughout the course, you can also work with EKC Training’s specialist team to gain entry to employment in a range of industries and they can support you with career guidance and information.

.

Study at your own pace

EKC Training has centres based in Ashford, Canterbury, Dover, Folkestone, Margate and Sittingbourne where you can learn Functional Skills.

As part of the Ofsted rated ‘Outstanding’ East Kent Colleges Group, EKC Training’s aim is to provide adults across East Kent with the skills and teaching they need to make it in life.

Studying Functional Skills at one of their training centres is also a great way to meet like-minded adults and build new friendships.

You will be surrounded by people who are aiming for the same goals and have similar mindsets during your studies.

If you want to study Functional Skills online, you will still get the same high-quality education and support that is available at the centres. As both daytime and evening options are available, you can learn at a time that suits you. All you need to take part is your own computer to access the lessons and a wi-fi connection.

Exams for Functional Skills courses happen throughout the year, meaning that you can take an exam whenever you feel ready.

.
