Bomb disposal experts were called in to detonate what was thought to be a World War II shell discovered on farmland.
Kent police were initially called yesterday afternoon by a member of the public following the discover on private land in Dunkirk, near Faversham.
Officers contacted the Ministry of Defence who sent in their bomb disposal team.
A Kent police spokesman said: “While on patrol in the Dunkirk area yesterday afternoon, Kent Police officers were alerted to the presence of a shell-like object on private land.
“The MOD’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal team was contacted and attended an area near Gate Hill and safely destroyed the object.”
