Morrisons in Faversham shut as shopper dies at checkout

A Morrisons supermarket shut its doors after a shopper collapsed and died at a checkout.

Emergency crews were called to the store in North Lane, Faversham, shortly before 11.30am following reports a man had suffered a medical episode.

The supermarket was closed and cars turned away.

A police spokesman said: "A man in his 80s has died. His death is not being treated as suspicious.

"Next of kin are aware."

South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAMB) spokesman Rich Airey said crews were called shortly after 10.30am.

He said: "We sent one car and two ambulance crews to the scene.

"Despite their best efforts sadly the man was pronounced dead at the scene."

The store reopened at 1pm.
