Faversham: Coastguard helicopter and police search for suicidal woman

Police and the Coastguard helicopter searched for more than three hours to find a missing suicidal woman near to a waterway in the early hours of this morning.

Officers were called to reports of concern for a woman's welfare in Faversham at around 10.45pm and later called in the search and rescue chopper to use infrared equipment along the water at 11.30pm.

The Sheppey and Herne Bay Coastguard rescue team, as well as the helicopter crews, rushed to the scene to search the area around Faversham Creek, near to Abbeyfields.

Many people in Faversham said they heard or saw the helicopter hovering low along the creek in the early hours of the morning.

Police spokesman James Walker said: "We were called to Abbeyfields in Faversham and officers attended the location.

"A search of the area took place and by 2.30am the person had been located. There are no reports of serious injuries."
