Hundreds of homes in Teynham without power after two-car crash

Almost 2,000 people were without power after an electricity pole was damaged in a two-car crash.

Police were called to the collision in Lower Road, Teynham, at about 8.05pm last night.

A spokesman for UK Power Networks said electricity supplies to 1,877 villagers were interrupted following the incident.

She added: "They were restored to 220 of them by about 8.30pm.

"The remaining 1,657 customers had supplies returned to normal by 9.10pm.

"To enable our engineers to safely repair the equipment, we had to temporarily interrupt power to 28 customers and their supplies were restored by 11.20pm.

"We are sorry for the inconvenience caused."

The incident is also understood to have caused delays to trains at Teynham Railway Station.

Lower Road was sealed off when officers and engineers from UK Power Networks attended.

They left the scene at about 11.20pm – more than three hours after the crash.

Officers have confirmed that no injuries were reported.
