Faversham has set a new temperature record - the hottest place in the UK so far this year.

On August 23 it recorded a sizzling 34.1C - hotter than any other place in the UK so far in 2016.

It was a record for the month, but also for any time during the year so far.

It was also a huge distance from the lowest recorded temperature for August... a dubious honour which went to Perthshire, which at one point notched up a mere -1.5C temperature.

But heatwave records are nothing new to Faversham.

The area of Brogdale in the town notched up the highest temperature ever recorded in the UK on August 10 2003, when the thermometer reached a whopping 38.5C or more than 101F.

But don't put away the sun lotion and shades yet - it's set to get very warm and humid later, with the mercury hitting a maximum 26C today.

Tomorrow, after a dull start, we're set for more sunny spells, with temperatures reaching 27C.

But it would seem not everyone's got into the spirit of our late summer: mince pies are already on sale in the shops, and the expiry date is two months before Christmas!
