Traffic was brought to a standstill on the M2 after a truck went up in flames.
Cars were stopped as firefighters battled the blaze on the coast-bound carriageway near junction 7 for Brenley Corner, near Faversham.
Some drivers got out of their cars to see what was happening and spotted plumes of smoke billowing from what looked like a van, at the the side of the road.
Kent Fire and Rescue Service was called at 2.15pm to a lorry alight on the M2.
There were three fire engines on the scene and the fire has now been extinguished.
Kent Police also attended alongside Highways England traffic officers.
