Traffic brought to standstill after fire on M2 near junction 7 for Brenley Corner

Traffic was brought to a standstill on the M2 after a truck went up in flames.

Cars were stopped as firefighters battled the blaze on the coast-bound carriageway near junction 7 for Brenley Corner, near Faversham.

Some drivers got out of their cars to see what was happening and spotted plumes of smoke billowing from what looked like a van, at the the side of the road.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service was called at 2.15pm to a lorry alight on the M2.

There were three fire engines on the scene and the fire has now been extinguished.

Kent Police also attended alongside Highways England traffic officers.

Traffic was held up for at least half an hour, as the fire trucks were blocking both lanes, but all lanes have now reopened.

No casualties were reported.
