Body of Florin Batrinca found dead in Abbey Fields in Faversham repatriated to Romania after fundraising plea

The body of a 26-year-old man found dead in a field has been repatriated following a fundraising plea from friends.

Florin Batrinca, from Corabia in Romania, was discovered dead in Abbey Fields in Faversham on Saturday, March 16.

He had been working in the country for a few months as a fruit picker.

An inquest opening into Mr Batrinca's death heard friends found him hanging from a tree when he was reported missing by colleagues concerned after he had not returned home.

Friends set up a fundraising page to help foot the bill to get his body home.

More than £1,769 was donated towards the £4,000 target and his body was returned to Romania at the weekend before a funeral on Monday.

The page, set up by Rick Cook, says: "Sadly our friend and colleague Florin Alexandru Batrinca is not among us after he died suddenly.

"Florin was only 26-years-old, originally from Romania and he worked in England in the past few months.

"With the sudden loss of a loved one away from home, it sadly means the cost of expatriation and funeral exceeds any of his family resources.

"This has created a huge financial burden and something I am certain we can all do something to help his family send Florin's body home.

"If you would like to donate, just click on the donate button and donate whatever you can."

Police and paramedics were called to the area near Faversham sewage works at about 9.30am on March 16.

A man walking his dog at 10.30am came across a group of around 15 people and several police cars and ambulance crews at the scene on the path near the bridge over the stream close to the water treatment works.

His death is not being treated as suspicious by police, and the case was passed onto the Coroner.

A post mortem report presented at the opening of his inquest, held at Archbishop's Palace in Maidstone this morning, concluded that the cause of his death was "neck suspension".

A full hearing has been scheduled to take place in June.
