A concerned cat owner called police after his beloved pet returned home covered in bleach.
Officers are investing claims the corrosive liquid may have been poured over the cat in Boughton-under-Blean, near Faversham, causing it to fall ill.
A police email circulated as part of a neighbourhood watch scheme warned pet owners of the incident.
It said: "A resident discovered that bleach had been poured over his cat and it was clearly not well as a result."
Police have confirmed they received the report at 11.45am on Thursday last week.
A spokesman added: "It is not known how the cat came into contact with the substance and if anyone believes they have information on an offence that may have taken place, they can contact Kent Police on 01795 419119 quoting 46/26460/21."
