Faversham Town boss Ray Turner admits his outburst in the Ryman League Division 1 South defeat at Ramsgate was wrong

Faversham boss Ray Turner vowed to learn his lesson after letting his frustrations get the better of him at Ramsgate on Tuesday, leading to an out-of-character outburst and a red card.

Turner is one of the coolest customers in Kent football but fell victim to the red-mist after Town saw a potential equaliser chalked-off at Southwood, the new haunt of Jim and Danny Ward.

Turner insisted “I don’t want to talk about them” but admitted he took his frustrations out behind the scenes after referee Gary Maskell sent him from the touchline after ruling-out Dean Grant’s header for an apparent infringement.

Turner said: “I did take it out on a couple of things in the changing room – it was tough to take. In my view we had what was a perfectly good goal disallowed and I got frustrated but I shouldn’t have got involved.

“I’m not going to apportion blame, we need to look at ourselves first. We have to take it on the chin. We need to learn from it and move on.”

With the Lilywhites among the title favourites in Ryman League, Division 1 South, Turner knows his squad will have to learn to deal with pressure.

He said: “It’s important to learn lessons from it. We are always honest with the players and had a chat afterwards. We have got to be clever and more intelligent, especially in derby games, because we have got so many of them.

“We are up there to be shot at and we have got to deal better with it when it inevitably happens again.”

Town head to Worthing on Saturday (3pm) and former Hythe winger Taser Hassan could feature but Charley Robertson (knee) will be assessed later this week.

Turner said: “It will be Worthing’s first competitive game on their new pitch and hopefully they will take a little time to get used to it. Hopefully, we can get back to winning ways.”
