Faversham Town chairman Gary Smart can't hide his delight as winger Kieron Campbell rejoins the club

Chairman Gary Smart believes Faversham have one of the best forward lines in the league having re-signed a talented winger.

Campbell’s departure from Isthmian Premier Herne Bay was confirmed at the weekend after he wasn’t in the squad for their 4-1 loss at Horsham.

He netted Bay's opening goal in their 2-0 Isthmian South East play-off final victory last season at Ashford and had five goals to his name this term at Step 3.

Campbell is back at Salters Lane having previously played for the club, featuring in their Isthmian South play-off final 3-0 loss at Worthing in 2016, before he left for Hythe in January 2017.

His arrival comes a week after ex-Herne Bay frontman Zak Ansah signed for Faversham who are bottom of Isthmian South East and presently in a battle to avoid the drop. They lost 3-2 at home last weekend to Sheppey.

“As soon as we found out that Kieron was a potential signing, we had to bring him home,” Smart told Town’s website.

“With the new signing last week of Zak Ansah, I believe we have one of the best forward lines in the league. Kieron is tried and tested, not only in our current league, but the league above.

“Kieron has had a lot of success in this league in the past and I’m sure he will do all he can on the pitch, along with his new team-mates, to take Faversham out of the position that we currently find ourselves.

“We knew Kieron was a very wanted man when he was released from his previous club [Herne Bay] at the weekend, the thought of him coming back home to help work on this very exciting new project at Faversham Town was something we couldn’t resist and made our approach.

“Welcome back, KC.”

Manager Simon Austin added: "Upon understanding of Kieron being available, we acted very quickly and [I] am delighted to announce Kieron’s signature.

"In speaking with Kieron, he bought into our current and immediate situation, as well as the longer-term plan. Kieron had lots of offers in a few days, given his calibre, and so I am delighted to welcome him into our squad."

The Lilywhites say Campbell, who made 35 appearances in his first spell and also plays for popular Sunday League side SE Dons, is available for this Saturday’s league trip to Three Bridges.
