Bomb squad search properties in Folkestone and Deal

A bomb squad have been spotted near a harbour and officers are searching a property nearby.

The incident happened in Marine Parade, Folkestone and police say they are searching the building in connection with an incident in Deal yesterday, where a suspicious item was discovered.

Officers found the item at a property in William Pitt Avenue.

A cordon was put in place to help experts from the Ministry of Defence Explosive Ordnance Disposal team whilst they assessed the object.
During this time nearby residents were asked to leave their properties for up to two hours as a precaution.

The item was found to be safe.
Earlier, police carried out further inquiries at the premises and located another suspicious item and the bomb squad were called to assess it, again it was found to be safe.

A police spokesman said: "Kent Police was called at 4.30pm on Tuesday after a suspicious item was discovered at a property in William Pitt Avenue, Deal.

"Police carrying out further inquiries at the premises located another suspicious item.

"Officers are also carrying out the search of a property in Marine Parade, Folkestone in connection with this incident."
