Flat in Tontine Street, Folkestone badly damaged in fire

There was nobody home when fire fighters tackled a flat blaze which ripped through a property early this morning.

Around half of the flat, in Tontine Street, Folkestone, was destroyed after the fire broke out in the bedroom.

The crew used a high-pressure hose reel jet to put the fire out, followed by a positive pressure ventilation fan to clear smoke and fumes from the property.

The flat was 80% affected by heat and smoke with around half the property destroyed by the fire. There are no reports of any injuries and the cause is currently unknown.

A police investigation has since been launched.

A spokesman said: "Kent Police was called by Kent Fire and Rescue Service at around 2am.

"Officers went to the scene where KFRS had put the fire out.

"There was nobody present at the address and inquiries are on-going to locate occupants.

"Officers are not treating the fire as suspicious."
