Girl reportedly assaulted in attack in Folkestone town centre

An appeal has been launched after a girl was reportedly assaulted in an apparent brawl in Folkestone town centre.

Police were called to Longford Terrace at lunchtime yesterday after reports of a disturbance which left a 13-year-old needing hospital treatment.

An investigation is now under way after "a number of allegations of assault" were made, police said.

Officers are looking for witnesses following the incident at 1.48pm.

Insp Andy Bidmead said: "A number of allegations of assault were made during the incident and one 13-year-old girl was taken to hospital to be checked over.

"We have already spoken to a number of people who were in Longford Terrace at the time but are appealing for anyone else who has information about the incident to contact us."

Witnesses reported the alleyway between Longford Terrace and Sandgate Road had been cordoned off.

A spokesman for the ambulance service said the girl was taken to William Harvey Hospital in Ashford for treatment.
