Army, police and Ministry of Defence officers work to move on traveller camp in Queens Avenue, Folkestone

The army, police and officers from the Ministry of Defence have been called to Folkestone this afternoon to work to remove an unauthorised traveller camp site.

Officers attended Queens Avenue, near Cheriton, to deal with a number of vehicles and caravans parked in the road.

It is understood the land is owned by the MOD.

A tweet from Kent Police Shepway said: "Assisting our colleagues the @BritishArmy and @MODPolice in the removal of an Unauthorised Encampment in Queens Ave, Folkestone.

"Working closely with partners in YOUR community."

A British Army spokesman confirmed there was no Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) activity in the area, and their presence was part of the work to move on travellers.

Police and Folkestone and Hythe District Council have also been contacted for comment.
