Man dies after house fire in Folkestone

A man has died following a house fire in Folkestone, it has been confirmed.

Firefighters were called to the ground-floor blaze in Appledore Crescent yesterday morning.

Paramedics and the ambulance service's Hazardous Area Response Team also attended alongside police.

Four fire engines attended and crews wearing breathing apparatus extinguished the flames.

Tragically, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The fire is believed to have started accidentally.

A police spokesman said: "Kent Police was called to assist Kent Fire and Rescue Service at the scene of a fire in Appledore Crescent, Folkestone at 7.35am yesterday.

"Officers attended and a man was pronounced deceased at the scene.

"The circumstances are not being treated as suspicious and a report is being prepared for the coroner."
