Man gets stuck in mud in Folkestone Harbour, sparking fire service rescue

A man who got stuck in mud in a Kent harbour as the tide rushed in has been rescued by the fire service.

The man became stuck knee-deep in the mire at Folkestone Harbour shortly after midday, but by the time crews had reached the scene he was already waist-deep in seawater.

Two firefighters used a reach pole with a special flotation collar to support the man, so he could free his feet.

He was then guided back to the hard sand of the beach area.

The fire service has now issued a warning, urging anyone walking near the coast at any time to be aware of tidal movements and times.

They also warn people to avoid putting themselves in danger, to keep dogs away from mud, and to stay on paths.

They add: "In the event of an emergency try not to panic and spread your weight as much as possible so you are standing evenly.

"Always carry your mobile and call 999 in an emergency."
