Paul's Restaurant, re-named the Tipsy Pigeon, up for sale in Folkestone

A popular restaurant that has been established in a seaside town for more than four decades is up for sale.

Paul's Restaurant, in Bouverie Road West, Folkestone, was a successful and fine dining eatery for 42 years.

It has served generations of long-term residents over the years.

Owned by Paul and Penny Hagger, the couple took a step back from its running in late 2015 and brought in management to take it over.

It was then re-named the Tipsy Pigeon for the remainder of its life.

But Mr Hagger told KentOnline that the re-brand did not work.

He said: "I have four businesses, this one ran for 42 years, but it takes more effort than anything put together.

"We have been trying to sell it as a business for a year.

"It is nothing like ill-health, the choice is do we wipe ourselves out running it or do we close it?

"We had it under management and it didn't work successfully."

The couple, who live in Marine Parade, Hythe, are also owners of a bed and breakfast business next door to them called The Beach.

Mr Hagger added: "We have had wonderful customers I have absolutely no regrets what so ever.

"Everyone says 'you must be sad to be closing' but I'm not at all, I just want to get on with my other venture which is just next door."

He said the bed and breakfast above the former Paul's Restaurant is still open.
