Cash from till stolen in raid at Beano's Vegetarian Cafe Bar, Folkestone

Thieves made off with just £60 after a restaurant's till was targeted in a break-in.

A window was broken at the rear of the Beano's Vegetarian Cafe Bar in Tontine Street, Folkestone, at some point after 6pm on Saturday.

The aftermath of the incident was discovered at 8am this morning by a chef who was starting work.

Drawers had been rummaged through and the till was open, owner Jo Bedwell told Kent Online.

She said: "I was shocked.

"But it could have been a lot worse, they came in through the garden and over the wall and there isn't anything missing from the garden.

"We were very lucky."

Forensics were called this morning and the restaurant has lost a day's takings after it was decided that it will remain shut while repairs are done.

It will re-open as normal tomorrow.

A police spokesman said: "Kent Police received a report at 8.46am today of a burglary overnight at commercial premises.

"Inquiries are ongoing."
