Posting on its Facebook page, RSPCA Folkestone said: "Seals often rest on beaches along our coastline but the member of public did the right thing by staying back from the seal and reporting it to us after noticing he had a sore mouth."

A local RSPCA inspector and volunteers from British Divers Marine Life Rescue were called in to help with the rescue.

The pup is now being looked after by the staff at the RSPCA's Mallydams Wood Wildlife Centre in Fairlight, near Hastings.
