GCSEs 2020: Folkestone, Hythe and Romney Marsh students get their grades

Students across Folkestone , Hythe and Romney Marsh are finally receiving their GCSE grades after a long and tense wait.

While the Year 11 pupils will be having a much more relaxed time than their A-Level peers, today could be a huge one for many hoping to secure their future.

As of 2017, the lettered marking system has been phased out and replaced with a numbered one - with 1 being a G and 7,8 and 9 being A, lower A* and high A*.

Due to exam disruption caused by the coronavirus outbreak, and following a u-turn by the government, results were decided by teacher assessments rather than exams this year.

Students at Folkestone Academy have been celebrating results whoch the school says "reflect the effort they put in over the course of their time in education, as judged by their teachers".

Rosie Dovibua will be taking her 9 GCSEs- including an 8 in Art and Design, 7 in Maths and two 6s in science- into the Sixth Form at the academy to study Psychology, Science and Sociology.

Jack Elliott is looking forward to a career in the military, as he will be taking up a place in The Army Foundation College in Harrogate.

Jack will be undertaking initial military training after achieving 9 grades, including two 7s in science and 6 in maths.

The school's top scorers were Tabitha Wheeler, Karthik Kumaneswaran, Samantha Tipler and George Cooper, all of whom had nine qualifications, including Distinctions and 9's in various subjects.

Everyone at the Academy has worked relentlessly to give our students the greatest chance of success”

Students at Brockhill Park Performing Arts College in Hythe are also celebrating strong results in whatthe school says has been "a challenging year for students and their families to say the least"

Esme Pearson achieved 6 GCSEs at Grade 9, whilst Emilie Worsley and Faith Kingsland both achieved 11 GCSEs at Grade 7 or above and Josie Taylor achieved 9 GCSEs at Grade 7 or above.

Olaf Warzyc, Penelope Curd and George Boxer all achieved 10 GCSEs at Grade 5 or above with Billy Hockley, Izzie Browning and Annie Carswell achieving 9 or 8 GCSEs at Grade 5 or above.

Senior Vice Principle Charles Joseph said: "We are proud of all our year 11 students of whom very many are returning to our Sixth Form in September. We are looking forward to seeing them!

"Families and teachers play a crucial role in the success of this school, so the Principal Mrs Schwartz and I would like to thank our parents for their support and our teachers for their unstinting dedication to our students."
