Teenager beaten up for cigarettes

Police are trying to trace a man who helped a teenager being beaten up by a gang of youths in Folkestone.

The 14-year-old boy and his friend were in Canterbury Road playing field, near the entrance by the fish and chip shop, when they were approached by a group of about eight youths who demanded they hand over their cigarettes.

When the 14-year-old refused he was punched in the face and kicked by five of the young people, leaving him with bruising and a blood-shot eye.

A grey-haired man broke up the assault and helped the victim to his feet. He then walked off along New Street.

Police would like to trace this man as he may be an important witness, and would also like to hear from anyone else who witnessed the assault or has any information about it.

One of the offenders is described as around 6ft tall with brown hair. Another had ginger hair and all were between 14-16 years old. The incident happened at 8.30pm on Saturday, October 18.

Anyone with information is asked to contact PC David McGuiness on 01303 850055.

Alternatively, if you have information but wish to remain anonymous call Kent Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
