Syrian conflict: Man arrested on suspicion of terrorism offences in Folkestone

A man has been arrested on suspicion of terrorism offences in relation to the war in Syria.

Officers from the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command stopped the 42-year-old in Folkestone at about 12.50am as he arrived in the UK from France on a coach.

He was taken to a police station in the county and remains in custody.

He was arrested under section 5 of the Terrorism Act 2006.

A spokesman for Eurotunnel in the town said: “Eurotunnel confirms that a man was arrested by police at its Folkestone terminal overnight on Monday into Tuesday.

"All further enquiries should be directed to Kent Police.”

The arrest comes as Lewis Ludlow, 26, of Warren Wood Road in Rochester appeared in court today charged with terrorism offences.
