A council says it is taking action after travellers pitched an unauthorised encampment on a field.

Several caravans have been spotted on the land off of Church Road in Cheriton, Folkestone.

The site is known locally as the Stadium.

Travellers have been spotted on the land at least four times in recent years.

A Folkestone and Hythe District Council spokesman said: "We’re aware of an unauthorised encampment on the stadium field in Church Road.

"This is being dealt with through the necessary legal channels.

"We understand residents may have concerns and we would urge people to report any issues of anti-social behaviour to police either by calling 101 or online at www.kent.police.uk/services/report-online/kent-police-online-reporting."
